How to Make a Newspaper Holder
Most people are told from the time that they start to read that reading is a way to be transported to another place, to learn about all kinds of interesting things and that it is just good for us in general. A houseful of avid readers, therefore, is something to be proud of. What is something you are unlikely to be proud of? The mess that a stack of old newspaper and magazines will make on your coffee table. Keep your reading materials organized and handy in a homemade newspaper holder that you can easily stash next to your couch.
Making a Newspaper Holder
Take your small hanging file folder box and remove the metal construction inside the box that is designed to allow hanging file folders to hang inside the box. You should be able to just pull it out.
Trace each side of the hanging file folder box onto a separate piece of decorative scrapbook paper and trace the outline of the side. Cut the pieces of scrapbook paper out, you will use them to cover the sides of your newspaper holder.
Lightly spray a coat of spray adhesive on the back of one piece of scrapbook paper at a time and then place it on the side of the newspaper holder where it is supposed to go on. Smooth the paper out, getting rid of any air bubbles trapped between the paper and the box. Do this until all sides of the box are covered.
Allow your newspaper holder to dry for an hour. Then, pour some decoupage out onto a paper plate and coat the whole outside of the newspaper holder with a layer of decoupage, with a foam brush, to seal it. Allow your newspaper holder to dry for a couple of hours before you use it.
